Far North District detectives investigating the death of a 17-year-old boy at Manoora early on New Years Day are treating the death as suspicious.
Police were called to Lychee Close just before 1am following triple zero calls about a street disturbance involving a number of people.
A17-year-old Mooroobool boy died in Cairns Hospital after being transported in a private vehicle prior to police arrival.
A second 17-year-old Mooroobool boy also presented at the Cairns Hospital for treatment to non-life-threatening injuries.
Both boys had sustained stab wounds.
Police declared a crime scene in Lychee Close and investigations are continuing.
Preliminary investigations indicate the boys had been attending a birthday party at a Lychee Close address prior to the street disturbance.
Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
Police arrested three males following investigations into the street disturbance. All three, aged 17, 18 and 28 were charged with obstructing police.
The 18-year-old and the 28-year-old, both from Manoora, are due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on January 18. The younger man was also charged with serious assault police after allegedly punching an officer and the older man also charged with contravening a direction.
