Police are appealing for assistance following a suspicious fire south of Wollongong yesterday, NSW Police say.
About 8.30pm today, police and emergency services were called to a motel complex on the Princes Highway at Figtree, after reports of smoke in one of the rooms.
Fire & Rescue NSW officers attended and found items inside the unit alight.
There were no persons inside the room at the time. Several other residents in the complex were evacuated as a precaution and there were no injuries.
The fire failed to take hold but there was significant smoke damage to the room. A crime scene was established.
Police are treating the incident as suspicious and are appealing for anyone who may have information to contact police via Crime Stopers.
