Suspicious fire in Koyuga

Campaspe Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a grass fire in Koyuga earlier this week that burnt about six hectares of paddock, Victoria Police say.

Emergency services were called to the blaze on McKenzie Road, about 1km north-west of Castles Road, about 12pm.

The fire was about 200 meters wide and burnt into the paddocks on the north side of the highway.

While the damage caused to the paddock was significant, luckily no one was injured.

The fire did cause some damage to fencing of a nearby farm.

Police have been told a dark-coloured utility with a matching canopy and P-plates was seen in the area at the time of the incident.

The male driver of the vehicle has been described as in his mid-20s and was wearing a dark-coloured terry towelling hat.

The investigation is ongoing and detectives are appealing for anyone who witnessed the described vehicle or any other suspicious behaviour in the area to come forward.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
