The Global Nature Positive Summit (Summit) aims to strengthen activities to protect and repair our environment, which includes choosing to invest in sustainability. By using sustainable products and practices we are contributing to a future where nature is at the heart of all decision-making processes.
Ensuring sustainability has been a key consideration in organising the event, including:
- choice of venues
- the design and construction of the main event space
- the catering and other services provided.
Fit for a Summit: Our sustainable event fit out
Every aspect of the Summit has been delivered with sustainability in mind, including our event space and services. We've used mostly reusable and recyclable materials for our event products, and even compostable plant displays! For example, the laminated bamboo and woven display panels made by House of Bamboo were chosen for their low environmental impact.
Zeroing in on our 100% zero waste access passes
We've partnered with TerraCycle to ensure every single part of our attendees' access passes will be repurposed or recycled. This includes the lanyard, metal clips, the pass itself and its plastic pouch.
At the end of the Summit, attendees can drop off their passes in special TerraCycle bins. TerraCycle will then sort, clean and separate the components for processing:
- metal components will be melted down and turned into brand new products
- plastic components will be shredded into small pieces and converted into pellets which can then be used to create recycled plastic products.
This process ensures 100% of the product is repurposed or recycled and prevents more single-use waste from being sent to landfill.
Signage and displays
All our Summit signage is made of cardboard or fabric which will be recycled post-Summit. We're not using merchandise or printed handouts at the Summit - opting instead for digital information displayed on lower-energy LED screens.
Florals for future (re)use
Our wonderful foliage and floral displays in the venue all come from pre-existing window displays. Most will be reused at other venues post-Summit and 20% will be composted.
Sydney's International Convention Centre
The Summit's main venue is the International Convention Centre (ICC)in Sydney. The ICC was chosen for its sustainability credentials, including being:
- part of a precinct awarded 6 stars (World Leadership) under the Green Building Council of Australia's Green Star Communities certification
- Gold Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified by the U.S. Green Building Council.
The venue is also close to several public transport options, minimising individual car usage and will feature sustainable inclusions, such as low-carbon catering options for reusable ceramics and glassware.
