Sustainability Boost for Southern Rangelands Stations

  • $1 million extension of successful Southern Rangelands Revitalisation Program
  • 10 new stations join the program, as previous participants' projects hit the ground
  • Cook Government helping to build strong and sustainable pastoral businesses

The Cook Government is delivering a $1 million boost to the Southern Rangelands Revitalisation Program, helping more pastoralists build stronger, sustainable businesses.

Ten new stations from across the Gascoyne, Murchison and Goldfields will join the successful program, which supports pastoralists to adopt next generation land management strategies that promote climate and business resilience.

The stations join seven participating stations with projects already underway to improve rangeland condition, land productivity and livestock management.

The new projects focus on managing grazing pressures and rehydrating the landscape by decentralising watering points, establishing grass seed nurseries and erecting fencing for revegetation and controlled grazing.

As part of the program, participating pastoralists recently completed a grazing management training program tailored to the Southern Rangelands.

Participants will continue to have access to ongoing training, expert advice and regular group meetings, which will support them to develop project proposals to enhance rangeland condition, increase livestock profitability and improve business performance.

Participants can then apply for grants of up to $75,000 to help implement their proposal.

Pastoralists will also benefit from the Cook Government's investment earlier this year to deliver four new automatic weather stations in 2025 to aid informed land management strategies.
