Sutherland Wins Top Australian Women's Cricket Award

Annabel Sutherland has been rewarded for her stellar year by collecting the Belinda Clark Award as Australian women's cricketer of the year.

The recognition caps a week to remember for the Victorian, who just days earlier become the first woman to score a Test century on the hallowed turf of the MCG.

Sutherland polled 168 votes, 25 votes ahead of Ashleigh Gardner.

At 23, Sutherland already has more international centuries than Ellyse Perry and is one of the youngest players to win the prestigious award, behind former Captain and Victorian teammate, Meg Lanning, who won it in back-to-back years in 2014 and 2015, aged just 21 and 22.

The all-rounder admitted it was surreal to be joining the pair on the honour roll.

"You listen to those names, it's pretty cool," Sutherland said.

"I think if you be half as good as any of those players, you'd be pretty happy.

Growing up watching those girls play, that's more what stands out. They were role models for me growing up and still are, so it's pretty cool to kid of sit alongside them."

Sutherland also finished equal third in the Women's ODI Player of the Year and sixth in the T20 International Women's Player of the Year awards.
