As cuts to NOAA, NASA and FEMA continue grow, so do the threats to the U.S.'s ability to predict weather-driven disasters and study the climate. UCLA and UC ANR climate scientist Daniel Swain will discuss the potential consequences of the cuts "that threaten to decimate weather & climate science & prediction in the U.S." and the "large-scale dismantling of American science" in a live briefing today.

White House budget documents show plans to eliminate NOAA's climate research by drastically cutting funding to the agency's research arm, as well as deep reductions to NASA and damage already done by recent cuts, as covered by news stories Swain highlighted in his social media.

These are "even deeper and more startling cuts to NOAA, NASA, FEMA, and other federal entities responsible for predicting, responding to, or studying weather, climate, wildfires, and disasters in the United States, [and] have been raising growing alarm. I&rdsquo;ll discuss the latest in today&rdsquo;s session, with a focus on potential short and long-term consequences," Swain said.
