Sydney-Busselton Margaret River Direct Flight Launched

  • Jetstar announces new direct route after success of Melbourne to Busselton flight
  • New direct flight set to boost tourism in WA's South West
  • Flights on sale today at 11am AEDT

Jetstar has announced a new non-stop route between Sydney and Busselton Margaret River Airport, which is set to boost tourism in Western Australia's South West region.

The three-times-weekly service will launch on 26 March 2024 and be operated by a Jetstar Airbus A320 aircraft.

The new service follows the commencement of the airline's highly popular direct flight between Melbourne and Busselton Margaret River that launched in April 2022.

The new flights will provide more than 50,000 seats between Sydney and WA's South West in the first year, including overseas travellers wishing to access the world-renowned food and wine region without stopping over in Perth.

The Busselton Margaret River Airport is conveniently located 6.8km from the Busselton city centre and just a 45-minute drive from Margaret River.

Earlier this year, the Cook Government announced the commencement of further planning for the long-term infrastructure needs of Busselton Margaret River Airport, on the back of strong passenger growth and the potential for additional services.

The new Sydney flight will go on sale today at 8am WST, with fares starting from as low as $109.

As stated by Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti:

"Our Government is very excited to welcome another direct link into WA, this time from Sydney into our beautiful South West region.

"This announcement comes off the back of the South West being named the fastest-growing regional destination in the country by the Tourism & Transport Forum, so we're expecting this to be a popular flight amongst travellers from the eastern states.

"Direct flights form a really important part of our tourism strategy, as it brings more visitors into our State, injects valuable tourism dollars into our local economy and, of course, supports local jobs and businesses."

As stated by Regional Development Minister Don Punch:

"The introduction of these direct flights from Sydney provides a welcome boost to tourism operators and small businesses in our spectacular South West region.

"This comes after significant WA Government support to secure direct flights between Busselton and Melbourne last year, which have unlocked new opportunities for investment and job creation.

"The Cook Government will continue to work with the City of Busselton and other stakeholders to develop a business case for further development of Busselton Margaret River Airport, off the back of growing popularity of the airport for commercial passenger flights and FIFO charters."

Comments attributed to Warren-Blackwood MLA Jane Kelsbie:

"We are very fortunate to have incredible beaches, forests and caves coupled with award-winning wineries and culinary experiences, which attract tourists from near and far.

"Today's announcement just makes experiencing this all the more easier for our friends in the eastern states, and we're really excited to welcome them when the flights commence next March."
