Local dance enthusiasts have the opportunity of a unique behind-the-scenes experience with one of Australia's preeminent dance companies at Mildura Arts Centre (MAC) this month.
Sydney Dance Company will perform their production, momenta, at MAC at 7.30pm on Wednesday, 30 April, choreographed by renowned artistic director Rafael Bonachala.
Mildura Mayor and Councillor for Arts, Culture and Heritage, Helen Healy said that in addition to the main performance, MAC in collaboration with the dance company is offering an opportunity for local dancers and dance enthusiasts to engage directly with the visiting performers while they're here.
There will be a special 'sneak peek' of the rehearsals for ticket-holders the day before the performance, on Tuesday, 29 April at 2pm, which will run for up to an hour and could include:
- 15-minute Company warm-up
- 15-minute talk and Q and A with a member of the artistic team discussing the creating the creative process behind momenta
- 15-minutes of rehearsals.
There will also be dancer-led workshops for local dancers. People interested in taking part can contact Mildura Arts Centre, however places are limited.
Cr Healy said the Sydney Dance Company's return visit to Sunraysia was a rare chance for local residents to witness world-class dance and engage with professional dancers without needing to travel outside the district.
"These amazing opportunities are normally only available in capital cities and show the benefits of having a modern, state-of-the-art performing arts venue and thriving local arts scene in our region," the Mayor said.
In a bid to make the Sydney Dance Company's performance accessible to as many young people as possible, MAC has introduced a half-price special for people aged 25 and under.
