The Hills Shire Council is calling for applications from individuals aged 15-24 to be the next Sydney Hills Youth Ambassadors.
The program is an excellent opportunity for young people to have their voices heard, develop their leadership skills, and advocate for young people across the Shire.
Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Peter Gangemi, a former Sydney Hills Youth Ambassador himself, said the program plays a pivotal role in initiating positive change for young people in the region.
"This long-running program is a unique opportunity to make a difference for the youth of The Hills," Mayor Gangemi said.
"I encourage young people to apply and give back to their community as the next Sydney Hills Youth Ambassador."
Councillor Jessica Brazier, also a past Sydney Hills Youth Ambassador, said the role gives young leaders numerous opportunities.
"Being the Youth Ambassador gives you a great platform to organise youth events, raise issues that are important to young people and lead volunteers," Clr Brazier said.
Outgoing 2023-2024 Youth Ambassador Eva Pulvirenti said the experience had been so beneficial.
"I feel extremely grateful for the opportunity to represent and advocate for my fellow young people in the amazing Hills Shire Council. The leadership skills I have acquired in the role have helped me in my day-to-day life," Eva said.
The incoming Youth Ambassadors will actively participate in community events, speak at Council functions, guide The Hills Youth Army, promote youth opportunities, and represent Council at relevant events throughout their 12-month ambassadorship.
They will also be paid a $1500 allowance for their time.
Applicants must meet Council's criteria and reside in The Hills Shire during their ambassadorship.
To nominate yourself or someone you know, visit www.thehills.nsw.gov.au and search for "Sydney Hills Youth Ambassador Program" to complete the online application form.
Nominations close at 11:59pm on Sunday 17 March.
