After days of substantial rain, the Toowoomba Region Mayor and Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) Chair Paul Antonio is reminding residents of the need to be careful on the roads.
"Fortunately we've seen the rain ease today however, we still have more than 100 roads closed so it's important extra caution is taken," he said.
"As the water continues to recede in the coming days we'll begin re-opening our road network where it's safe to do so.
"It may appear that some roads and bridges are safe to cross when there is little water on the surface however, we need to check whether there is any structural damage before we re-open these to the public.
"Please obey the signage. It's impossible for Council to sign every defect and danger on the roads so be alert and drive to the conditions and as always - if it's flooded, forget it.
"We're continuing to monitor the flood levels, including the Condamine River, as any further rise may impact access to Cecil Plains.
"In positive news both Cooby and Perseverance Dams have filled with Cressbrook also expected to reach capacity tonight.
"While there has been overflow from these dams spilling, we've been closely monitoring the situation and there doesn't appear to be any risk to our communities at this point in time.
"As any spill from Cressbrook will head towards the Somerset Region, we've been in close contact with them on any potential risks for their residents.
"It's also been pleasing to see the height of the Oakey Creek dropping slightly this afternoon. This is a positive sign following our 'Watch and Act' emergency alerts for Oakey and Jondaryan earlier today.
"Our Local Disaster Management Group remains at 'Stand Up' and will continue to monitor the situation overnight.
