Ambulance Victoria (AV) is urging men to prioritise their physical and mental wellbeing this International Men's Day (IMD).
This year's theme is Men's Health Champions, aiming to raise awareness for the 50 Australian men that die each day from preventable causes before they reach the age of 75.
Ambulance Victoria Senior Team Manager Simon Dortmans said IMD was a timely reminder for men to take steps to improve their overall health and wellness.
"We know that men are less likely to get preventative care, so it's important they focus on their mental and physical health, and seek help when needed," Simon said.
"There are simple steps that you can take to look after your health, like getting regular sleep, eating a healthy diet, exercising daily and maintaining social connections.
"It's also essential to have regular check-ups with your GP and if you are feeling unwell, seek help and don't wait until it's too late."
IMD also highlights some key issues that men face, including that three out of four suicides in Australia are males.
Suicide is the leading cause of death for men under the age of 55 and one in two men will experience some sort of mental health disorder in their lifetime.
"Mental health concerns are common, and it's crucial that men talk about it - whether that's with their friends, family or other people in their life.
"It doesn't matter how big or small you think your mental health concerns are, help is always there if you need."
