Take Smart Lane To More Efficient Services With DoT

  • Department of Transport (DoT) initiative empowers customers to enjoy efficient and convenient services
  • New Smart Lane campaign to improve DoT customer experience
  • Promotes learner driver preparation, DoTDirect services and proof of identity requirements

The Cook Government has moved to enhance the customer experience and streamline access to several key Department of Transport (DoT) services.

After the success of the temporary Saturday opening hours at DoT Licensing Centres in Cannington, City West and Mirrabooka, a new campaign has been developed to invite customers to get in the Smart Lane for a better customer experience.

Smart Lane will run from 1 July to 6 October as a social media and digital audio campaign that seeks to educate and empower DoT customers to enjoy more efficient and convenient interactions, with a focus on three important DoT service offerings.

Learner drivers will be encouraged to get in the Smart Lane by improving their understanding of what is required to pass the computerised theory and hazard perception tests and how regular driving practice can ensure they are fully prepared for the practical driving test, only booking their Practical Driving Assessment when they are confident and safe drivers.

Another way the community can use the 'Smart Lane' is to go online with a DoTDirect account instead of waiting in line, and gain access to dozens of driver and vehicle transactions, such as licence and registration payments and vehicle transfers, anytime and from anywhere.

Smart Lane will also educate the community on the proof of identity (POI) requirements to complete transactions with DoT, which differ from POI requirements of other government agencies, financial institutions and telecommunications companies.

Comments attributed to Minister Assisting the Transport Minister David Michael:

"The Cook Government is committed to making our services more accessible and efficient and the Smart Lane campaign aligns with our vision for a modern, customer-centric DoT.

"Whether you're a learner driver who would benefit from more time driving with a supervisor before sitting your test, someone with a busy lifestyle who can benefit from using online services or a new arrival to WA needing to transfer a licence, Smart Lane will empower the community to ensure their dealings with DoT are efficient and time-saving."
