Takeaway Oil And Money Down Drain

A routine inspection by officers from EPA Victoria has cost the operator of a takeaway food van a $790 fine for depositing dangerous litter.

The officers were on a regular visit to a tyre retailer on 10 January, when they noticed a trail of what looked like oil or grease leading from the nearby takeaway van to a stormwater drain.

They investigated the drain and noted it contained waste oil with a smell of old food grease.

They issued the proprietor, a Glenroy man, with a $790 fine for depositing dangerous litter, an offence under section 115 of the Environment Protection Act 2017, which specifies oil, fuel, grease, paint and solvents as dangerous litter.

The food van was parked in a car park beside the Hume Highway, at Campbellfield, at the time of the offence.

Under the Environment Protection Act 2017 and the Infringements Act 2006, the operator has the right to have the infringement notice reviewed or be considered by a court.
