Taking Silverdome To Next Level

Tasmanian Government

Tasmanians can look forward to an even better experience at one of the State's most long-standing largescale live entertainment venues, the Silverdome.

The Tasmanian Government has increased its investment into the refurbishment of the Silverdome by a further $4 million to $12 million, enabling additional upgrades to be delivered at the iconic venue.

Minister for Sports and Events, Nick Duigan, said the upgrades will enable the Silverdome to deliver an even greater fan experience and host more cultural, community, and live entertainment events.

"We are taking our investment to the next level," Minister Duigan said.

"These upgrades mean more seating, better accessibility, new replay screens, a new floor system, better food and beverage options, and better elite and community changerooms.

"An even better Silverdome will drive growth in Northern Tasmania, through more jobs in construction, more cultural and corporate events, and an increased ability to form community partnerships. It will also secure JackJumpers games in the North into the future.

"As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, the Tasmanian Government is committing record investment in infrastructure across the State, including significant funding for the building and improvement of new and existing sporting facilities, for both community and elite sporting groups."

Minister Duigan also confirmed ownership and management of the Silverdome is currently being transferred to Stadiums Tasmania.

Welcoming the announcement were Launceston Mayor Matthew Garwood and Stadiums Tasmania CEO James Avery.

"This is great news and a positive step forward for Launceston as we work together to identify opportunities to significantly improve the city's current sporting and entertainment capacity," Mayor Garwood said.

"We all have special memories of concerts, graduations, sports events and performances held at the Silverdome over the last few decades, and I know everyone will be as excited as I am to see the results of this important upgrade."

"These upgrades will not only significantly enhance the State's ability to attract more events to the Silverdome but also its capacity to deliver a greater variety of events to the venue," Mr Avery said.

"The upgrades also ensure the future of existing community and elite level sporting and cultural events at the Silverdome, all of which deliver substantial economic and social value to Launceston and the State more broadly."

Critical works at the Silverdome will soon commence and are expected to be completed by when the JackJumpers play their first game of the 2025/26 NBL season.
