A man will face court today after police seized a firearm in Tamworth yesterday.
About 2.40pm yesterday (Wednesday 4 December 2024) police attached to Oxley Police District, with the assistance from the Dog Unit, attended an address on Flynn Street, South Tamworth, to arrest a man wanted on an outstanding warrant.
The 28-year-old man was arrested at the location.
During the arrest, police will allege the man threatened officers.
Police conducted a search of the property and allegedly found a privately made firearm and some ammunition. A small amount of drugs were also located.
All items were seized for forensic examination.
The man was taken to Tamworth Police Station, where he was charged with:
- Threaten injury to person with intent prevent lawful detention
- Hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty
- Possess shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority
- Possess unregistered firearm - not pistol/prohibited firearm
- Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/ authority
- Not keep firearm safely – not pistol/prohibited firearm
The man was refused bail to appear before Tamworth Local Court today (Thursday 5 December 2024).
