Two youths have been charged following a police pursuit of a stolen vehicle in the state's north overnight.
Operation Regional Mongoose is a high-visibility police operation to tackle serious property-related crime committed predominately by young offenders.
About 1.50am today (Wednesday 24 April 2024), officers attached to Oxley Police District were patrolling Green Street, Tamworth, when they attempted to stop a SUV after checks reveal it was stolen.
When the driver allegedly failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated.
A short time later, the SUV left the road and hit an electrical box on a footpath on Goonoo Goonoo Road, and three people allegedly ran away.
Police arrested an 18-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy and took them to Tamworth Police Station.
The boy was taken to Tamworth Hospital to be checked as a precaution.
The man was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.
He was refused bail to appear at Tamworth Local Court today (Wednesday 24 April 2024).
Checks reveal the SUV was stolen from a home on Kurrawan Street, Tamworth, at the weekend.
