The NSW Electoral Commission has formally declared Tanya Taylor as Mayor of Willoughby, for her second term in office.
Willoughby City Council is pleased to confirm that Tanya Taylor was popularly re-elected in the NSW Local Government Elections, held on 14 September.
Mayor Taylor was elected as the third female Mayor of Willoughby in December 2021, in her first attempt running for office as an Independent and has led Council efforts to help the area recover from COVID-19, high inflation and a cost-of-living crisis.
The Willoughby Local Government Area has enjoyed improvements in liveability as Mayor Taylor has led efforts to tackle the housing crisis with more affordable housing units built in the area and supported by better urban design.
Mayor Taylor also led Council's commitment to upgrading facilities and assets and the revitalisation of public and open spaces like Chatswood, Naremburn and Artarmon, positioning Chatswood as the cultural heart of Sydney's North Shore.
Now re-elected for a second term, Mayor Taylor is looking forward to building on the momentum of the last few years, stating that she is thrilled to serve her community again, while delivering projects and initiatives in line with Council's Community Strategic Plan.
"I am deeply honoured to be re-elected as Mayor of Willoughby," Mayor Taylor said.
"Our community's strength lies in its diversity, creativity, and shared commitment to sustainability. I will continue to advocate fiercely for our local priorities – appropriate infrastructure that supports development, protecting our built and natural environments, improving tree canopy and supporting small business."
"Together, with the newly elected Councillors, our General Manager, Directors and their committed teams, I want to ensure Willoughby remains a connected, sustainable and vibrant place to live, work and play, where everyone can thrive."
As an active member of the Willoughby community, Mayor Taylor has served in several voluntary leadership positions, holding a long record of community work for the 1st Sailors Bay Sea Scouts, Willoughby Public School P&C, Willoughby Community Special Needs Pre-School, Cancer Council NSW and the Cerebral Palsy Alliance.
The first General Meeting of the new term of Council will take place on Monday, 28 October at 7.00pm.
