Taree Rec Grounds Amenities Upgrade

MidCoast Council

Taree Recreation Grounds' Danny Buderus amenities building is currently undergoing a redesign process to deliver upgraded facilities for user groups.

In late 2021 MidCoast Council received funding of $430,000 from Round 3 of the Federal Government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program and a further $225,000 of development contributions was allocated by Council to upgrade the building. The facility provides user groups including Taree Panthers Rugby League, Taree Touch Football Association, and the Taree Red Rovers Junior Rugby League Football Club with change rooms, storage areas, a canteen and public toilets. It also supports other community events and user groups throughout the year.

Following confirmation of funding, user groups were consulted to inform the design for a refurnished building and a contract was awarded to CJ Hogan Pty Ltd to undertake these works.

During recent demolition works structural damage was uncovered in the concrete slabs and walls which was undetected in the initial investigation phase and engineering reports. As a result, the current design and engineering is not feasible.

"Work on the building has temporarily ceased to ensure the safety of contractors and the community whilst we undertake further investigations and a revised design in light of the unforeseen structural damage that has been uncovered," said Amanda Hatton, MidCoast Council Manager Strategy and Projects.

"We have engaged with the primary user groups of the facility on the revised design to ensure that their immediate priorities are addressed for the next stage of works with future stages to be realised upon securing additional grant funding."

The Taree Recreation Grounds is one of the most prominent and highly-used sporting facilities in the MidCoast LGA.
