Launched four weeks ago, Taskforce Reprisal is continuing to deliver strong results in southern Tasmania.
Acting Sergeant Katie Swift said the taskforce has seized ten weapons from about 50 public place searches since it began.
"These searches were conducted as part of the taskforce's focus on public order offences and retail theft in the Hobart area," she said.
"Last Saturday the taskforce conducted twenty searches using metal detection wands, and located three knives."
"As part of Saturday's efforts, seven people were arrested for various offences including possessing dangerous weapons, stealing, drug offences, motor vehicle stealing, evade police and trespass."
"In addition, 16 people were given formal directions to leave the Hobart CBD and waterfront areas."
"Our community has the right to feel and be safe in our public spaces," Acting Sergeant Swift said.
"There is no excuse for carrying weapons without a legal reason, and police will continue to target those who do."
"We are also continuing to work proactively with retailers to identify and hold people to account if they are committing retail theft."
Anyone who witnesses illegal or anti-social behaviour should report it to police on 131 444, or Triple Zero (000) in an emergency.
