Parts of Tasmania are likely to see snow fall to approximately 400 metres as cold air moves across the state on Thursday through to Saturday.
The Bureau of Meteorology said today that light snow is expected for kunanyi/Mt Wellington on Friday morning and Ben Lomond, in the north, may also receive snow.
Meteorologist Luke Johnston said Friday is forecast to be the coldest day with maximum temperatures unlikely to reach 10°C in many places.
"Western, southern, and central areas of Tasmania are likely to see showers or snow with frosts likely in the north on Friday, and most areas on Saturday," Mr Johnston said.
"The Bureau is expecting to issue a Road Weather Alert and a Bushwalkers Weather Alert, and possibly a Sheep Graziers Alert.
"Drivers should be prepared for slippery and dangerous road conditions in parts of Vince's Saddle, in the south, and the Lyell Highway over the Central Plateau.
"Milder conditions are expected to return to Tasmania later this weekend."
The Bureau will continue to monitor the situation and update warnings and forecasts as required.
Communities are encouraged to keep up to date with the latest forecasts and warnings through the Bureau's website and BOM Weather app and follow the advice of emergency services.
