The Tasmanian Liberal Government is working hard to make our roads safer and more efficient as part of the 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future.
Installation will begin next week for several new electronic highway signboards, giving road users real-time travel information and details about crashes and other road incidents.
Parliamentary Secretary for Infrastructure, Kerry Vincent, said the first five of Tasmania's new electronic signboards will be installed across Greater Hobart highways, providing motorists with greater overview of their journey.
"The Overhead Traveller Information Systems (OTIS) are designed to give road users real-time travel times to key destinations," he said.
"These electronic billboards, which Tasmanians will start to notice popping up around Greater Hobart, will be key for informing the community about traffic flow.
"Importantly, they will also provide information about crashes, changes in weather, or unplanned incidents, so people on the road can make informed decisions about their travel."
Installation locations include:
Gantries will be installed from Monday, 7 October 2024 at several Greater Hobart highways – including the Brooker, Huon and South Arm Highways. Works are expected to be completed by Tuesday October 15.
Following the installation of the first five gantries, the electronic signboards will undergo final testing before going live.
Planning is now underway for a further six electronic signboard installations across Greater Hobart.
Works will take place at night, from 6:30 pm to 6:00 am, and outside peak hours during the day, from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm, to avoid major traffic disruptions.
