A new report from the Business Council of Australia (BCA) highlights the Tasmanian Government's success in cutting red tape and creating a business-friendly environment.
Tasmania was named the second best place to do business in the country, and was a top three performer for property taxes and charges, retail trading hours, cost of workers' compensation schemes, efficiencies in planning decisions, consistency and certainty in planning according to the BCA Report.
Minister for Business, Industry and Resources, Eric Abetz, said the Tasmanian Liberal Government was clearing the path for businesses and industry to grow and thrive.
"We have undertaken landmark reform in Tasmania over the past decade across more than 300 government permits and approvals," Minister Abetz said.
"This initiative provides greater certainty and clarity for business and investors, ensuring Government processes are transparent and efficient.
"Ultimately we want to strike the right balance between protecting Tasmania's unique characteristics while supporting innovation and investment.
"While the analysis is very pleasing, we know that we cannot become complacent. The task of reducing red tape and creating a positive jobs environment can always be improved.
"We want businesses to have the confidence to grow, invest and create even more jobs, which is why we're backing business as part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future.
"We have helped businesses become more energy efficient, we have slashed red tape and delivered grants programs that provide an encouraging boost.
"We want to make it easier for businesses to do business and we will continue to work with industry groups to get the best outcome for Tasmania."
