The Tasmanian Liberal Government will establish a single permit process for new start up small businesses as part of its red-tape-busting reform agenda.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff announced a new Small Business Start-Up Permit, which will enable small businesses to trial their concept for 12 months with a single permit.
"Tasmania is already the State of entrepreneurs and innovators, but we want our State to be the best place in the nation to start a new business," the Premier said.
"This single permit will make Tasmania the start-up capital of Australia.
"It means those entrepreneurs and innovators can launch a new business without investing significant time, money and the other resources required to secure long-term permits.
"While commonwealth licences and permits will still apply, we can play a role in simplifying local and state government permits during the start up phase.
"The permit will allow new businesses to gradually obtain relevant state and local government permits over the 12 month period, allowing them to open their doors sooner.
"This significant reform will create jobs and help keep our economy strong by encouraging people to start their business here in Tasmania.
"As I announced earlier this week, the Government is taking a slasher to red tape, and we are starting with business licences.
"Our Government is boosting productivity and economic growth by slashing red tape and regulation and backing business."
As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, the Government is making Tasmania the best place to live, work, raise a family, invest and do business.
Work to implement the Small Business Start-Up Permit is underway and expected to be in place this year.
