According to the latest ABS figures released today, Tasmania recorded the strongest growth in the construction and building sector in the year to March 2019.
This is fantastic news, and confirms the Hodgman Liberal Government's initiatives to help build intergenerational infrastructure and increase housing supply are working.
Over the year to the March 2019 quarter the total value of construction and building work done grew 15.3 per cent in real trend terms, which was the strongest growth rate in the nation and is in stark contrast to the decline of 6.1 per cent experienced nationally.
We are focused on maintaining the positive momentum in Tasmania's building and construction industry, and our initiatives are helping to create jobs right across the State.
Over the same period, engineering construction work grew 20.6 per cent over the year to March 2019 quarter, which was also the strongest growth rate in the nation.
And, the value of building work done increased by 10.2 per cent, making Tasmania the fastest growing state, and bringing the total work done over the year to March 2019 at nearly $1.7 billion.
