Tasmania's energy sector has come together to continue bringing our state's best renewable energy opportunities to the forefront.
Minister for Energy and Renewables, Nick Duigan, attended the sixth Annual Tasmanian Energy Development Conference today which brings the energy sector together to collectively realise the opportunities in new renewable energy, and how future industries can leverage our clean and reliable energy advantages.
"Tasmania has some of the best renewable energy resources in the world. The smarts and capability of the renewable energy sector is helping to harness these resources and ensuring Tasmanians benefit by delivering low-cost, reliable electricity to our homes and businesses and creating jobs and skills for future industries," Minister Duigan said.
"We have a strong tradition of renewable energy, meaning we can capitalise on our skills, knowledge and resources to grow our economy, meet our growing demand, continue our great achievement of net zero-emissions and create jobs for the future.
"Tasmania is one of the few places in the world that has achieved 100 per cent self-sufficiency in renewable electricity, but to maintain this enviable position, we need more on-island generation to power our homes, electrify our industries and lives, and allow businesses to grow.
"Tasmania has a legislated world-leading target to double our renewable generation by 2040.
"We've listened to proponents looking to invest in our renewable's future. We know that we need to support the energy sector in driving new on-island generation and the transition to renewable energy industries. And that is exactly what we are doing.
"Our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future recognises this through supporting investment in new generation, directing Hydro Tasmania back to its foundational principles, improving approvals processes, developing our first renewable energy zone and investing in renewable skills and training.
"Another huge focus for the Tasmanian Liberal Government is developing Tasmania's hydrogen industry through our Tasmanian Renewable Hydrogen Action Plan and investment in the Tasmanian Green Hydrogen Hub at Bell Bay.
"There are many exciting renewable energy projects in the pipeline that are well progressed. Delivering on these is a collective effort, one we are pleased to work alongside the very capable people in this sector to realise for Tasmania."
