The Tasmanian Liberal Government will introduce Legislation this week to extend the Payroll Tax Rebate Scheme to 30 June 2025, providing payroll tax relief to businesses that employ apprentices, trainees and youth employees.
In recent years, the Scheme has been very successful, helping thousands of Tasmanians to gain an apprenticeship or traineeship, and giving young people the opportunity to work.
Treasurer and Acting Minister for Finance, Michael Ferguson, said this is about supporting Tasmanian businesses as they train our next generation of workers.
"Apprentices are vital to Tasmanian businesses, the delivery of the State's biggest ever infrastructure pipeline and the health of our economy," Minister Ferguson said.
"They are the incoming generation of skilled Tasmanian workers who are doing incredibly important things, from building the Bridgewater Bridge, to putting roofs over the heads of Tasmanian families.
"By introducing legislation to extend our existing payroll tax rebate for one year to 30 June 2025 we are throwing our full support behind Tasmanian businesses that invest in our young apprentices and grow the next generation of skilled workers across the State.
"This Scheme supports around 3,300 apprentices, trainees and youth employee placements each year.
"Extending the Payroll Tax Rebate Scheme will support skills, create more jobs, and help more young Tasmanians into work as we deliver our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future."
