The Tasmanian Health Senate will meet in Launceston today, bringing together 40 passionate healthcare professionals to discuss workforce challenges and strategies.
Minister for Health, Jacquie Petrusma, thanked our healthcare staff and said they are the backbone of the Tasmanian health system.
"Over the next two days of discussion and debate, our healthcare advocates from around the State will focus on developing recommendations and solutions to build and strengthen the workforce," Minister Petrusma said.
"The Senate will be considering a range of important aspects, including education and training pathways, scope of practice, workforce wellbeing, and workforce engagement.
"It's critical for Tasmania to have a large and diverse health workforce with the appropriate range of skills and experience to ensure Tasmanians can access the healthcare services they expect and deserve.
"Discussions will also build on our strategic approach to workforce challenges – through our Health Workforce 2040 strategy – and plans to enhance Tasmania's health workforce now and into the future.
"Importantly, this will complement the work we are already doing to improve our health workforce through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future – which has already delivered more nurses, doctors, and paramedics into our health workforce.
"On behalf of the Government, I express my appreciation to the members of the Tasmanian Health Senate for the critical work they do in providing leadership and advice on health issues of statewide strategic importance.
"I look forward to hearing directly from our Senate experts and advocates and taking part in these important discussions."
