Tasmanian Health System Improvements Pushed by New Data

Guy Barnett, Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing

A range of new performance data will now be published daily on the Department of Health's website as the Tasmanian Government works to end ramping.

This includes a commitment to increase transparency to better inform patient choices, and to help drive accountability and facilitate improvements across the Tasmanian health system.

Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Guy Barnett, said from today, the Department of Health will commence daily publication of information outlining the percentage of ambulance incidents transferred to hospital staff within 60 minutes of arrival across all our major hospitals.

"Under our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future we are determined to drive continuous progress on this measure, improving outcomes for Tasmanian patients and ensuring paramedics are freed up to do what they do best," Minister Barnett said.

"The Transfer of Care protocol commenced in April 2024, which now guides paramedics and hospital staff to ensure more Tasmanian patients are transferred to the care of hospital staff in a more timely fashion. There have been positive results so far, and we anticipate continued improvement.

"We are committed to increasing transparency in our health system, and this is an important step forward.

"Importantly, publishing this data on a daily basis will help drive accountability in Tasmania's public hospitals by demonstrating how we are positively addressing patient access and flow challenges.

"I would like to thank all staff working across our public hospitals for their continued dedication and commitment to providing high-quality health services to the Tasmanian community."

Data will also be published daily outlining extensive information on Emergency Department presentations, including a breakdown by hospital and triage category. This information will also include the number of admissions occurring each day, and how long patients requiring admission take to depart the Emergency Department, including a break-down of patients departing within 4, 8 and 12 hours.
