Tasmanian Institutions Enhanced by New Legislation

The Justice and Related Legislation (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill (No.2) 2024 has today been tabled in Parliament.

The Bill contains a number of minor amendments to a variety of Acts, acting to clarify and improve the operation of particular pieces of legislation.

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Guy Barnett, said that this legislation is the result of broad and extensive stakeholder engagement.

"Through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, we are working tirelessly to ensure there are constant improvements to Tasmania's important institutions," the Attorney-General said.

"The Bill introduced today does just that – implementing a number of improvements and tweaks to particular pieces of legislation.

"There has been extensive stakeholder consultation to get to this point and I want to thank them all for their contributions to this valuable legislation."

Key stakeholders include:

* the Chief Justice;

* Department of Police, Fire and Emergency Management;

* Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions;

* Tasmanian Electoral Commission;

* Ombudsman; and

* the Department of Justice.
