Tasmanian MPs Urged to Prioritize Local Interests Over Canberra's

Michael Ferguson, Treasurer

The Tasmanian Liberal Government will always stand up for Tasmania – against those in Canberra who want to dud us time and time again.

Every Member of Parliament should be doing the same thing.

With a number of critical projects needing adequate Federal funding to keep our great State moving forward, every Member of Parliament – regardless of political party – should be making the case and advocating for improved outcomes and better funding for Tasmania.

Whether it is the Greater South East Irrigation Scheme, more funding for safer roads, an upgraded Antarctic gateway or many other economic opportunities - it is incumbent on Parliamentarians to stand as one in pushing for Tasmania's interests.

Mr Winter in particular should cease standing with the Federal Government and concentrate on helping get Federal funding flowing to Tassie so we can get on with delivering major infrastructure upgrades that will underpin economic growth and investment in the State.

They must stand up for Tasmania's best interests and ensure we get our fair share when it comes to critical infrastructure, our essential services and job-creating and-enabling opportunities.

That is what our Liberal Government stands for, it's what our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future is about, and it would be a good thing for Tasmania if all members of the Tasmanian Parliament stood up for Tasmanians every day of the week, as the Liberal Government is doing.

Anything less is a betrayal to the Tasmanian people.
