Tasmanian Youths Arrested for Car Theft, Evading Police

Police have charged a 15-year-old from Clarendon Vale and a 16-year-old from Rokeby with several offences after an incident in Southern Tasmania on Wednesday morning.

Police will allege around 3:30am, the youths entered a residence in Bellerive through an unlocked door, where they stole cash and car keys to a luxury vehicle. Using these keys, the youths allegedly stole the vehicle and evaded police in the Bellerive area a short time later.

It will be further alleged the youths were detected travelling in excess of 200km/h on the Brooker Highway at Granton, before crashing the vehicle in Bridgewater.

Yesterday, police searched a residence in Clarendon Vale and arrested a 15-year-old who was subsequently charged and bailed to appear in court at a later date.

This morning, police searched a residence in Rokeby and arrested a 16-year-old who was subsequently charged and detained to appear in court this afternoon.

The youths were charged with aggravated burglary, stealing, motor vehicle stealing, evade police, driving without a licence, exceeding the speed limit and computer related fraud.
