Tasmanians Encouraged To Take Pause This Legacy Week

Tasmanian Government

This week (1 September – 7 September) marks Legacy Week.

The Legacy Week appeal has been running since the 1940's and is a time for all Australians to show their support for the widows and children whose loved ones have served our country.

Minister for Veterans' Affairs, Guy Barnett, has called on Tasmanians to throw their support behind Legacy Week, saying it is a time to give back to families who have given so much.

"Legacy Week is a time for all Tasmanians to remember that the sacrifices made in service to our country extend far beyond the battlefield," Minister Barnett said.

"It reminds us that the cost of war is not borne solely by those who serve, but also by their families.

"By purchasing a badge, making a donation, or simply taking a moment to reflect, we can all contribute to the ongoing care of those who have been left vulnerable by the loss or injury of a loved one.

"So, this year, I urge all Tasmanians to embrace Legacy Week.

"It is more than just a fundraiser; it is a powerful expression of our collective gratitude and a commitment to uphold the values of duty, sacrifice, and care for others.

"We want Tasmania to be the best possible place to live, work and raise a family under our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future – and supporting our distinguished veterans and their families is of utmost importance."
