Tasmanians Invited To Shape Future Of Cardiac Services

Tasmanian Government

Tasmanians are being asked to help shape the future of cardiac services across the State, with consultation on the Tasmanian Cardiac Strategy exposure draft now open.

Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Guy Barnett, said the Strategy outlined the Government's vision to improve heart health across the State and encouraged Tasmanians to provide feedback.

"We know the statistics on heart disease are devastating in Tasmania and it is our State's single biggest cause of death," Minister Barnett said.

"As a result, the demand for cardiac services will continue to increase in the years ahead, which is why we are planning for the future and ensuring our services are well positioned to meet the needs of the community.

"Importantly, we are already taking action in this space with planning underway for the Northern Heart Centre and funding secured, which will be a lifesaving addition to the Launceston General Hospital.

"The Tasmanian Cardiac Strategy will complement this important investment and outlines our plan for improving heart health outcomes over the next 10 years.

"Importantly, the Strategy has been developed in partnership with the Tasmanian Cardiac Network and takes a system-wide approach.

"Through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future we want to achieve our vision of all Tasmanians living healthier lives through effective prevention, treatment and management of heart disease."

Feedback is encouraged from across the Tasmanian community, but with a particular emphasis on individuals, organisations, healthcare professionals, providers, researchers and individuals with an interest in heart health.
