Tassie Hits Record Low Unemployment

Tasmanian Government

Today's Labour force data, released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, shows unemployment in Tasmania is at an all-time low.

The latest data has confirmed Tasmania's unemployment rate was 4.0 per cent in January 2025.

The total number of Tasmanians employed also increased to 281,948, a growth of over 1,000 jobs, from December 2024.

Minister for Finance, Roger Jaensch, said this was more good news for Tasmanians.

"The Tasmanian Government backs jobs, backs businesses and backs the economy," Minister Jaensch said.

"Unemployment in Tasmania has maintained a three year period of at or below 4.2 per cent.

"This is a win for everyday Tasmanians - just yesterday it was confirmed Tasmanians are earning more than ever before, our economy has grown to a record $40.6 billion and retail trade is breaking records.

"NAB have confirmed we have the third best business conditions in the country and growing business confidence – these are encouraging signs as we enter 2025.

"To continue stimulating this economic growth, we are determined to deliver our $30 billion infrastructure pipeline, underpinned by our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future.

"Whether through our high-vis army expansion, key Government infrastructure projects, or investing in community groups we are backing jobs and backing businesses at every opportunity."
