Another jam-packed program is on the cards for the seventh Tassie Scallop Fiesta, held at Bridport on August 4.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff and Liberal Member for Bass Rob Fairs joined organiser Tony Scott to launch the 2024 program, with highlights including live entertainment, chef demonstrations, masterclasses, the famous scallop pie competition and scallop splitters challenge.
Special guest John McFadden, who has been named the world's best seafood chef, will host the chef demonstrations.
Premier Rockliff said the Fiesta was one of the highlights on the winter events calendar.
"Rain, hail or shine, the Fiesta always deliver a fun and exciting event in Bridport," Premier Rockliff said.
"The Tasmanian Government is pleased to have supported the Scallop Fiesta event, with $60,000 to assist the event delivery from 2022 to 2024.
"The Tassie Scallop Fiesta is a celebration of Tasmania's maritime and fishing heritage, and our premium fresh produce, which our state is known for."
Liberal Member for Bass, Rob Fairs, said events such as the Fiesta are so important to our regional areas, particularly during the off-season.
"Our tourism and hospitality sectors employ one in eight Tasmanians, and our Government is backing these job creating, economy boosting industries by encouraging year-round visitation," Mr Fairs said.
"This year's Off Season campaign is our biggest ever, with more than 500 unique experiences on offer."
Premier Rockliff said the Tasmanian Liberal Government is securing the future of our regional events through its 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future.
"I'm pleased to announce our 100-day plan commitment to secure the Scallop Fiesta, along with Bicheno Food and Wine Festival, Cygnet Folk Festival, Tasmanian Craft Fair, Taste of the Huon and TrailGraze has been met, with negotiations with event organisers for each event now underway," Premier Rockliff said.
