Alice Springs and Darwin taxi ballots 2024

9 January 2025

The Northern Territory Government is committed to ensuring a safe and efficient commercial passenger vehicle industry to meet the needs of the community.

To increase the available number of taxis and reduce wait times for passengers, five new standard taxi licences in Alice Springs and a further 13 in Darwin will soon be released by the Department of Logistics and Infrastructure through a two-tiered ballot system.

Applications to enter either ballot are now open to eligible persons. Priority will be given to persons who have been active in the taxi industry for three or more years.

Applications close at 4pm, 31 January 2025 and will not be accepted after the scheduled closing date.

Applicants are responsible for collecting and collating all required information and ensuring that this information is included in their application. Incomplete applications will not be considered for entry into the ballot. No extensions will be provided.

Information on ballot eligibility, entry information, tier structure and how to obtain an application form is available at nt.gov.au/taxi-ballots [http://www.nt.gov.au/driving/industry/taxi-ballots].

Quotes from Chief Executive Officer of Department of Logistics and Infrastructure, Louise McCormick:

"Our commercial passenger industry is a key part of transport services for Territorians."

"These additional licences will help the commercial passenger vehicle industry better meet customer demand and expectations."
