Townsville City Council's Animal Shelter has reopened and is operating as usual.
Acting Mayor Ann-Maree Greaney said there was an influx of stray animals that were keen to be reunited with their owners.
"Over the last week or so we've had an influx of stray animals find their way to our shelter, either through Council crews picking up wandering animals or people handing in stray cats and dogs to vet clinics," Cr Greaney said.
"These cats and dogs are chomping at the bit to get home, so it's great our Animal Care and Adoption Centre has reopened."
Councillor Greaney said the Tomkins Road facility was open from 9am – 3:30pm Monday to Friday and 9am – 2pm on Saturdays, but reminded people to call through on 0457 769 362 first to let them know you're coming.
"There's always a lot going on out at our facility as our team cares for sometimes hundreds of animals, so it's essential to give the team a bell to let them know you're coming," she said.
"We're operating as normal and have plenty of pups and adorable cats ready to find their furr-ever homes in our Valentine's sale, with prices reduced to $150 for dogs and puppies and $80 for cats and kittens until Friday 21 February."
