A quick response by police and dog eyed attention by one of our Dog Squad units led to the arrest of teenager following an aggravated carjacking in St Albans.
Police were called to a fast-food outlet on St Albans Road following reports a man had been injured and his car stolen about 3.15am.
Detectives have been told the victim was approached by the offender, who was armed with what appeared to be a machete, in the carpark of the restaurant.
The victim was threatened and allegedly slashed with the knife before his white Kia sedan was stolen.
As police were responding to the scene a member from the Dog Squad spotted a car matching the stolen vehicles description on the Western Ring Road.
He called for assistance and followed the car through Kealba and into Sunshine where police moved in.
A number of units boxed in the vehicle in Garnet Street before the teenager was removed from the car and arrested.
The 16-year-old boy from Keilor Downs, who appeared substance affected, was taken to hospital under police guard.
He will be interviewed by police in relation to the carjacking.
The victim was also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening slash wounds.
