Teen Charged After Assaulting Police in Sydney East

A teenager has been charged after allegedly intimidating and assaulting police in Sydney's east last night.

About 10pm (Tuesday 31 December 2024), officers attached to Eastern Beaches Police Area Command were patrolling and assisting crowds leaving the area on Arcadia Street, Coogee, when they approached two groups of people who were involved in a verbal confrontation.

Police will allege a teenage boy in the group yelled profanities at the officers.

When officers attempted to speak to the teen, he walked away from police.

Officers then attempted to arrest him, when he allegedly resisted police, before spitting at one officer's face and threatening another officer.

Police searched the teenager when they located cannabis, which was seized for forensic examination.

The teenager was arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station, where he allegedly kicked the door of a police vehicle, causing it to hit a police officer.

He was charged with resist police, two counts of assault police, intimidate police officer and possess prohibited drug.

The teen was refused bail and will appear at a children's court today (Wednesday 1 January 2025).
