Teen Charged in Break-Ins: Operation Mongoose

A teen will face court tomorrow charged following multiple break ins in the state's Riverina.

Operation Regional Mongoose is a high-visibility police operation to tackle serious property-related crime, committed predominately by young offenders.

In November 2024, Detectives from Wagga Wagga Police District commenced an investigation into a series of aggravated break, enter and steal offences and stolen motor vehicle incidents, that occurred between December 2023 - January 2024 in retirement villages around Wagga Wagga.

During these various incidents, property including phones, wallets, and money were stolen. In some instances, elderly victims were awoken with torches shining in their faces.

Following inquiries, about 12:00pm today (Tuesday 24 December 2024, detectives attended a residence at Connorton Avenue, Ashmont and arrested a 14-year-old boy.

He was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station where he was charged with 18 offences including:

  • 3 counts of being carried in a conveyance,
  • 9 counts of aggravated break, enter and steal,
  • 2 counts of attempted break, enter and steal and
  • 4 counts of aggravated break and enter with intent to steal.

The teen was refused bail to appear before a Childrens Court tomorrow (Wednesday 25 December 2024).

Inquiries under Operation Regional Mongoose continue.
