A teenaged boy is due to appear in a children's court today charged after a pursuit at Lake Heights yesterday.
Officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District were patrolling Northcliffe Drive, Berkeley, abut 10am (Monday 4 November 2024), when they attempted to stop the rider of an unregistered motorbike.
When the rider allegedly failed to stop when directed, a pursuit was initiated.
Police will allege in court the motorbike was reaching speeds of up to 120km/h in a sign-posted 60km/h zone, with the pursuit terminated a short later due to safety concerns.
A short time later, the rider hit a car on Flagstaff Road, Lake Heights.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the alleged rider – 17-year-old boy – for leg injuries.
He was taken to Wollongong Hospital under police guard before being released and take to Wollongong Police Station where he was charged with five offences,
• Police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly
• Never licensed person drive vehicle on road
• Use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle
• Use uninsured motor vehicle, and
• Possess prohibited drug.
The boy was refused bail to appear in a children's court today (Tuesday 5 November 2024).
The male driver of the other vehicle, and his two-year-old passenger, escaped injury.
