A teenager will appear in court today charged over an alleged car theft and aggravated break and enter in the state's north west.
Officers attached to New England Police District were called to a motel on Warialda Street, Moree, about 4am last Thursday (26 December 2024), following reports of a break and enter.
Police will allege a 17-year-old boy and two unknown males – one armed with a knife – forced entry into the carpark before breaking into a motel room.
The group allegedly threatened the occupants – a 44-year-old man and an 11-year-old boy – demanding the man's wallet, phone and keys, before leaving in a BMW sedan.
About 8.15am Thursday 26 December 2024, police recovered the allegedly stolen BMW in Mehi Crecent, Moree, intact.
About 7.15pm yesterday (Sunday 29 December 2024), officers attached to New England Police District attended a home in Jacaranda Drive, Moree, and arrested a 17-year-old boy.
He was taken to Moree Police Station where he was charged with aggravated break and enter dwelling in company steal, take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, commit a 154A offence and disseminate (post and boast), and breach of bail.
The teen will appear before a children's court today (Monday 30 December 2024).
