New England officers have charged a teenager following investigations into property-related offences in the state's north west under Operational Regional Mongoose.
Operation Regional Mongoose is a high-visibility police operation to tackle serious property-related crime, committed predominately by young offenders.
About 4.00am on Saturday (16 November 2024), police were called to a motel on Warialda Street, Moree, following reports of a robbery.
Officers attached to New England Police District arrived and were told multiple unknown people had allegedly forced their way into several rooms, during which they threatened residents and stole personal items and car keys.
The group then allegedly fled in a stolen BMW SUV.
Police established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the incident.
Following inquiries, police arrested a 17-year-old boy at a home on Jacaranda Drive, Moree, about 10am yesterday (Monday 18 November 2024).
The teenager was taken to Moree Police Station where he was charged with taking a conveyance without consent of owner, aggravated break and enter in company steal less than $60,000 and be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.
The 17-year-old refused bail and appeared before Children's Court yesterday where he was further refused bail to reappear before the same court on Thursday 21 November 2024.
Investigations into the incident are continuing.
