Teen Charged With Aggravated Break-In, Pursuit

Police have charged a teenage boy with multiple offences in the state's north.

Between 3:40am and 5:45am on Friday 31 January, 2025, a number of youths allegedly broke into a home on Ben Venue Boulevard Armidale.

They allegedly stole jewellery, cash, gold and two motor vehicles, including a BMW X5 and Mitsubishi ASX.

About 8am Friday, police located the BMW X5 parked along James Carney Crescent, West Kempsey.

Two youths were observed only a few metres away. When officers approached, a 16-year-old boy entered the vehicle and attempted to leave the scene. The BMW collided with the rear of the police vehicle before driving off and a pursuit commenced.

During the pursuit, the BMW collided with a gutter breaking the front axel. The pursuit came to a stop on Eric Kennedy Street, West Kempsey.

The boy was arrested and taken to Kempsey Police Station where he was charged with:

  • Aggravated break and enter dwelling in company steal <=$60000
  • Police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously - first offence
  • Take & drive conveyance without consent of owner
  • Goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (not motor vehicle)
  • Possess prohibited drug
  • Custody of knife in public place - first offence

He was refused bail and appeared before a Children's Court on Friday 31 January, 2025 where he was

granted conditional bail to appear before the same on Wednesday 5 February, 2025.

The Mitsubishi ASX remains outstanding.
