Teen Dies While Swimming Near Gerringong

A teenage boy has died while swimming in a lagoon near Gerringong yesterday.

Emergency services were called to Werri Lagoon about 5pm (Wednesday 15 January 2025), responding to reports three people were in trouble.

Two teenage boys – aged 16 and 18 – made their own way to safety with a third brought to shore by a lifeguard; however, the 14-year-old boy was unable to be revived.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District have commenced an inquiry.

Police have been told that part of the lagoon is not patrolled.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
