Teenager Charged After Carjacking In Craigieburn

A teenager has been charged following an alleged aggravated carjacking which resulted in two stolen cars crashing into each other in Craigieburn on Tuesday.

A 49-year-old woman was driving her Mercedes along Craigieburn Road when her vehicle was rear-ended by a Mitsubishi about 9.15am.

The woman pulled over to exchange details with the other driver when she noticed a male occupant from the Mitsubishi running towards her.

She attempted to lock her door but was allegedly dragged out of the car and thrown to the ground, causing lacerations to her arms and legs.

The male then got into the Mercedes and sped off.

The vehicle was allegedly being driven erratically and crossed over a medium strip onto the wrong side of the road before attempting to turn and crashing into the Mitsubishi at high speed.

The driver of the Mercedes and two occupants from the Mitsubishi then fled the scene on foot.

Responding police chased down the trio and arrested them at a train station carpark off the Hume Freeway.

Checks revealed the Mitsubishi had been stolen from Merrigum overnight between Sunday and Monday.

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with aggravated carjacking, intentionally cause injury, drive in a manner dangerous and unlicensed driving.

He has been remanded to appear at a children's court at a later date.

The 16-year-old girl and the 26-year-old man were released pending further enquiries.
