Teenager Charged Over Stabbing At Inverell

A teenage boy has been charged over an alleged stabbing in state's north-west.

Just after 4.45pm yesterday (Friday 17 January 2025), police were called to a hospital in Inverell following reports of a teenager with a stab wound.

Officers attached to New England Police District were told the 17-year-old boy was involved in a fight with another boy – known to him – on Ross Street, Inverell, before he was allegedly stabbed to the left side of his back. He was treated at the hospital for a non-life-threatening injuries.

Police established a crime scene and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, about 2am today (Saturday 18 January 2025), police arrested a 14-year-old boy.

A kitchen knife was seized to be forensically examined.

He was taken to Inverell Police Station where he was charged with reckless wounding, custody of knife in public place, carry cutting weapon upon apprehension, and goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (not motor vehicle).

He was refused bail to appear in a children's court today, where he was granted conditional bail to appear in a children's court next Thursday (23 January 2025).
