Two young people have been charged with allegedly travelling in stolen cars in the state's central west.
In December, officers from Central West Police District began an investigation under Operation Region Mongoose West, following reports of stolen cars in Orange.
Following extensive investigations, police arrested a 14-year-old boy and 16-year-old boy about 9am at a home in Kurim Avenue, Orange.
Police will allege in court the 16-year-old boy broke into a home on Clinton Street, Orange, about 2.30am on Thursday 19 December 2024.
The same day, police allege the 16-year-old boy was a passenger in a car, allegedly stolen from a home at Northstoke Way, Orange. The boy also allegedly used debit cards taken from the same home.
The vehicle was later recovered in Maxime Place, Orange.
Police received a report a car was stolen from home in Leura Road, Orange, about 8pm on Saturday 28 December 2024.
Later that night at 11pm, police attempted to stop the allegedly stolen car on Bathurst Road, Orange.
When the driver allegedly failed to stop, police initiated a pursuit, before it was terminated due to safety concerns.
A short time later, the car was located in South Terrace, Orange.
Police allege the 16-year-old boy was driving the car, while the 14-year-old boy was in the passenger seat.
Police will further allege the 14-year-old boy was a passenger in a car, allegedly stolen from Violet Street, Miranda, on Monday 11 November 2024. The vehicle was recovered in Buna Steet, Orange.
Following their arrest, the boys were taken to Orange Police Station.
The 16-year-old was charged with:
- Police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously
- Enter building/land with intent commit indictable offence
- Be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner
- Dishonestly obtain financial advantage etc by deception
- Drive conveyance taken without consent of owner
- Never licensed person drive vehicle on road
He was refused bail to appear at a children's court on Wednesday 1 January 2025 where he was granted bail to appear at a children's court on Monday 13 January 2025.
The 14-year-old boy was charged with two counts of be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner and larceny.
The 14-year-old boy was granted conditional bail to appear at a children's court on Thursday 23 January 2025.
