Two teenagers have been charged following an alleged break and enter and armed robbery in Sydney's southwest last night.
About 7.00pm (Thursday 4 July 2024), police were called to a home on Judith Street, Chester Hill, following reports of a break and enter.
Officers from Bankstown Police Area Command were told five unknown males – allegedly armed with baseball bats and a machete – broke into the house, where they allegedly assaulted a 28-year-old occupant.
The group also allegedly stole two mobile phones before fleeing in a small blue Holden Barina hatchback.
About 9.45pm, police were called to a business on Christina Road, Villawood, following reports of an armed robbery.
On arrival, officers were told about five unknown men – allegedly armed with baseball bats and a machete – assaulted the business owner before stealing cash and leaving in a hatchback.
The business owner, a 62-year-old man, was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for facial injuries and was taken to Auburn Hospital for further treatment.
About 10.30pm, police were patrolling Tangerine Street, Fairfield East, when they attempted to speak with a number of males walking along Jamieson Lane; however, the males allegedly ran off.
A short time later, a 19-year-old man was located and arrested in the rear yard of a premises on Mandarin Street, Fairfield East.
He was taken to Bankstown Police Station where he was charged with aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence-people there, and robbery in company.
He was refused bail to appear before Bankstown Local Court today (5 July 2024).
About 10.45pm, police located a blue Holden Barina hatch in Malta Street, Fairfield East. As officers approached, two men were seen to exit the vehicle and run.
The driver was allegedly seen carrying a large machete, which he discarded nearby. The machete and hatchback have been seized for further forensic examination.
Following an extensive search of the area, police arrested a 16-year-old boy nearby. He was taken to Bankstown Police Station where he was charged with goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (not motor vehicle), recklessly deal with proceeds of crime, receiving, and possess prohibited drug.
He was granted conditional bail to appear before a children's court on Thursday 1 August 2024.
